That’s why so many are sick right now

Hygiene doctor Hans Peter Hutter and virologist Norbert Nowotny on the most pressing questions.

Why are there currently so many infected people?

➔ Three waves come together: Corona in a mild form, the RS virus, which particularly affects children, and the real flu. We had lockdowns, distance rules, compulsory masks. Of course, this protects once morest all viruses. But now there are no longer any of these measures, hence the violent wave of influenza infections. The tribe also has a high degree of contagion.

Are the influenza viruses more aggressive than usual?

➔ They have a higher virulence. The corona infections have also gnawed at the immune system. This results in a lower immune defense.

Are there triple infections: Covid, influenza, RSV?

➔ Yes, you can get infected with all three viruses. One infection does not protect once morest the other. The viruses come from different virus groups. However, there is no cross-immunity, a corona disease that has gone through does not protect once morest flu viruses.

When will the triple wave peak?

➔ The flu wave started early, usually not until mid-December. It usually lasts until the end of March. We started earlier this year. The flu epidemic will drag on for a few more weeks, if not months. A flu shot would still be useful. A flu shot has no vaccine reactions. After six or seven days you are protected.

How should you protect yourself at Christmas?

➔ Test before the family or company party. If I have symptoms like a runny nose or sneezing, then I should be careful. Everyone should think regarding it a little.

Will there be an FFP2 obligation for the holidays?

➔ This is a wish to the Christ Child. Large groups reject the obligation to wear masks. Experts advise: contain the risk.

Are flu shots still advisable?

➔ Currently, a flu vaccination should be preferred to a Covid vaccination.
