The closing ceremony of the Huawei ICT Competition 2022 in Senegal took place this Friday, December 23 in Dakar. 25 people were selected out of 700 candidates for this 2022 edition. Among these 25 winners, three (3) benefit from a full scholarship thanks to the partnership with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Senegal and 20 internships will be granted to others, as well as many prizes.

In Senegal, it is the fourth (4th) edition and the enthusiasm around the event amazes the organizers.

“Huawei ICT Competition is a world-class competition dedicated to young people who illustrate the unfailing commitment of the Huawei group in Senegal to support the socio-economic development of our country and Africa in general, through various programs in the field of digital technology and innovation. Through this competition, Huawei not only allows these young people to have access to a learning platform and other training in the innovative field carrying projects, but also offers them a first integration into working life thanks to scholarships and internships offered”, underlined Pape Malick Ndour, Minister of Youth, Employment and Entrepreneurship, on the sidelines of this ceremony.

Minister Pape Malick Ndour indicates that the Huawei group is thus helping to fill the gap between training and employment, between market needs and the available workforce. “Your group’s approach is perfectly consistent with the objective of the Emerging Senegal (Pse) plan in terms of human capital development, but also with the 2025 digital strategy put in place by the Head of State. Who considers ICT as an essential element to achieve economic emergence”, he added.

Speaking at this award ceremony for young Senegalese talent, Lionel LIU, Managing Director of Huawei Senegal, discusses the merits of this competition. “Huawei aims to provide students with a platform to compete healthily and exchange ideas, thereby improving their ICT knowledge and hands-on skills, as well as their ability to innovate using new, adequate and updated technologies and platforms,” supported Mr. Lionel Liu.

And to specify: “Thanks to the partnership with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Senegal, with the support of our operator partners Sonatel Orange, Free and Expresso, 3 full scholarships and 20 internships will be granted to them, as well as many lots, which we have carefully prepared for them. »

To date, 8 Senegalese universities are among the Huawei ICT Academy, and thanks to the support of certified instructors, students can take certification courses such as SG, Datacom, artificial intelligence, Big data…
