Borussia Dortmund wants to improve on the left side of defense by summer at the latest. Until now, Ramy Bensebaini from Borussia Mönchengladbach was the favourite, but suddenly a new name has emerged.
Benfica’s Alejandro Grimaldo has been linked with Borussia Dortmund. The Spaniard would be available on a free transfer in the summer and has a lot of experience.
Borussia Dortmund: Grimaldo statt Bensebaini?
The Spanish portal “Todomercadoweb” is now reporting that Borussia Dortmund has kept an eye on Alejandro Grimaldo. The 27-year-old has not renewed his contract with Benfica Lisbon and is available on a free transfer in the summer.
The Spaniard is a left-back at Benfica, has made over 276 appearances for the top Portuguese club since 2016 and brings a lot of international experience (36 appearances in the Champions League) to the table.
Borussia Dortmund isn’t the only club being talked regarding as a possible target for Grimaldo. In addition to BVB, Juventus Turin and Inter Milan are said to have expressed interest in the left-back.
BVB is looking for a new left-back
At Borussia Dortmund, Ramy Bensebaini from Borussia Mönchengladbach has been the top favourite. The 27-year-old is also available on a free transfer in the summer and should not be averse to a move to BVB. “Sky” recently even reported an agreement between Dortmund Bensebaini, but no final decision has yet been made.

Raphael Guerreiro’s contract with BVB expires in the summer, but – as of now – will not be extended. Borussia Dortmund is probably planning a change in the left-back position.
Guerreiro is a fine footballer and meets BVB’s offensive requirements, but defensively there is a huge problem. The Portuguese regularly makes blatant mistakes and is prone to injury.
