There are no market value losers. Christian Schwarz, Head of International at Transfermarkt explains: “The World Cup is a showcase for players to attract the eyes of the world public. Therefore, only footballers were considered who were able to significantly improve their status during the tournament and/or played their way into the international spotlight, which ultimately also leads to increased interest on the transfer market – consequently, the World Cup update goes first Line regarding revaluations and not regarding devaluations”.
