Tourism: The SDR launches the second phase of development of the Anchor Point area

Surfing: The Anchor Point site is internationally known as a surfing hotspot for its powerful waves.

The Souss-Massa Tourism Development Company is launching the second stage of development of the tourist area of ​​Anchor Point in the Commune of Taghazout – prefecture of Agadir Ida Outanane. According to the SDR, the consistency of the work includes in principle: the site installations, the detour and temporary signage, the demolition of the existing structures, the earthworks and roadway and the construction of civil engineering structures in RC.

The overall timeframe for completion of all the works and supplies relating to the contract, including the folding up of the site installations and the restoration of the land and places is set at 4 months. And this for a total estimate of 3.32 million DH. Indeed, the site of Anchor Point is internationally known as a mecca for surfing for its powerful waves. Before being a renowned surf spot, Anchor Point was a historic place in the region, known for having housed, in the 1960s, an important tuna fishing factory, the Madrague de Bou Irden, which gave its first name. at the “Al Madraba” site. Its nickname “La Pointe des Ancres” (Anchor Point) comes from the fishing technique used on this site which consisted of deploying a tugboat and several boats around a large net stretched perpendicular to the coast and held by a row of anchors. .

The Anchor Point Tourist Development Unit is initiating a new form of niche tourism in the Souss-Massa Region, authentic and respectful of the environment, with the creation of 670 beds. The unit bears the name of a world-famous surf spot and is located north of Agadir and the village of Taghazout, in the heart of unique vegetation, dominated by the argan grove on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The natural characteristics of the site have made it possible to initiate its candidacy for the international World Surfing Reserve program launched by the NGO “Save the Waves” for the protection of natural areas where surfing is practiced.

The tourist vocation of the UAT Anchor Point is perfectly suited to categories of clientele including international surfers, digital nomads and influencers and, more generally, travelers in search of authentic places where nature predominates. At the Anchor Point site, the peak wave season covers the period from October to May for experienced surfers and lends itself to swimming and beginner surfing thanks to milder waves in summer, thus offering an all-round tourist product. throughout the year.

The area offers plots equipped and distributed according to a low land occupation coefficient, the accommodation establishments occupying the plots are classified structures according to the regulations in force. Privileging natural materials and regional construction techniques, these constructions follow a sustainable architectural approach integrated into the site, and meet certain ecological requirements such as rational water management and a preference for solar energy.
