Swedish clothing retailer H&M has pulled Justin Bieber’s merchandise from its stores following the Canadian singer slammed criticism that the chain used his image without his consent.
Bieber took to his Instagram account on Monday to call H&M’s collection “junk”, saying he “didn’t approve of it”. The clothing retailer assures that it has “followed the appropriate approval procedures” for the products in question. A representative for H&M told The Canadian Press that the company decided to pull the clothes from its stores and online store out of respect for Justin Bieber and their collaboration.
The international star’s name and likeness appeared on various items, including a sweater, dress and tote bag. There was even a phone booth that included lyrics from one of his songs. Five years ago, H&M collaborated with Justin Bieber on a clothing line from his world tour. Since then, singer Bieber has shown an interest in fashion and launched a high-end clothing line Drew House.
Earlier this week, H&M said it had taken the same “appropriate” steps for approval on the Bieber line as it does in all of its other licensed product partnerships.
