Fanny Smith (30) was on the podium once more in the second race in Innichen, Italy. The Vaudoise, 2nd Wednesday, this time finished 3rd despite a fall.
Smith looked set to finish just behind Sweden’s Sandra Näslund once more, who continued her incredible streak with a 13th consecutive World Cup success, the 33rd overall. But the Swiss made a small mistake that caused her to lose speed.
The Austrian Sonja Gigle then collided with the Villardoue and both fell, before getting up and crossing the finish line. The two skiers were classified ex aequo. The Vaudoise seemed to have been hit in the left arm during her fall.
Group performance of the Swiss
Two other Swiss women stood out. Sixtine Cousin (23) won the small final ahead of Talina Gantenbein (24). The Genevan signs a good performance a year following having torn the ligaments of the knee.
On the men’s side, no Swiss managed to qualify for the final. Marc Bischofberger and Joos Berry finished 5th and 6th respectively.
