This Thursday morning, the police arrested in Roeselare, Flanders, a 19-year-old young man who had threatened to “shoot all schools, hospitals and the police” in an email.
According to information from HLN, the young man is part of a group of hackers and had already made a similar threat earlier this year.
It was around 2:44 a.m. on Thursday morning that a strange email titled “my last day” was sent to dozens of recipients, including from the media. The young man introduces himself in this email and he even slips his name and address into it. “Today at 12 I plan to shoot the biggest shot with my Browning Model 1922. I plan to take down all the schools, hospitals and police. Everyone is a target. I will kill anyone in sight. Note my words, you are all my target. Pipe bombs are also placed in front of every school, hospital and police station. My father will also help me kill as many people as possible,” he wrote in his email.
The name of the sender of the message immediately spoke to the police. In March, the young man had already threatened an attack. He was talking then regarding showing up to school with a gun.
After the mail sent that night, the police immediately went to the young man’s home. “He was arrested, just like his father. Both will be questioned, ”explained Tom Janssens, spokesperson for the West Flanders prosecution, to our colleagues. “At the moment, it seems that the new email does not come from the young man himself. We deduce this, among other things, from the language used in the message, but it is also not at all sensible to send such an e-mail in his name. We believe this is the internationally active hacker collective that has taken on global stars before,” the spokesperson adds. The young man was part of this collective for a while, but that would no longer be the case.
