If he was born on November 14, 1948, King Charles III will officially celebrate his 74th birthday on June 17, 2023. A ceremony with great pomp and a parade in front of Buckingham Palace will be organized.
For the first time since assuming the throne, the King Charles III, who privately turned 74 on November 14, will attend the annual parade celebrating his birthday on June 17, 2023, in London.
Some 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians will be gathered for the event, called “Trooping the color” (“Salut aux couleurs”). The parade will run from Buckingham Palace in London to Horse Guards Parade Square along The Mall Avenue. The Royal Family are then expected to watch the aerial parade from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
The British Crown has also announced the promotion to colonel of the regiments participating in the parade of Queen Consort Camilla, the heir to the throne, the prince Williamand his wife Kate.
This ceremony will take place a little over a month following the coronation of Charles III, on May 6, which the royal family intends to modernize and make more modest compared to the grandiose one of Elizabeth II in 1953.
A tradition started by King George II
It should be remembered that British sovereigns celebrate their birthdays twice, respecting a centuries-old tradition that has its origins in the harsh climate that reigns for a good part of the year in the United Kingdom.
It was King George II who changed the rules in 1748. Indeed, the latter, born on November 10, 1683, was tired of blowing out his candles in the middle of autumn, when the showers and the cold constantly threatened the festivities.
