Avatar 2, The Batman, Everything everywhere all at once, Licorice Pizza, Top Gun Maverick, En Corps, Nope, As Bestas….
Here is the Top of the films that have marked us the most in 2022.
Like every year, this list is the sum of the disparate tastes of the editorial staff. These films are not all masterpieces, some have even been screened by our colleagues, but they are the ones that fascinated us, that moved us, scared us, made us cry, laugh or simply entertained.
Do not hesitate to share with us your favorites of the past year.
This list has no specific order.
Everything everywhere all at once de Daniel Scheinert et Daniel Kwan
A true declaration of love for the seventh art full of finds and brilliant quirks, Everything Everywhere all at once is the kind of cinematic slap that feels incredibly good. The Multiverse as you’ve never seen it on the big screen.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza
Licorice Pizza resurrects the Paul Thomas Anderson that we love. By revisiting the Los Angeles of the 70s where he grew up, the director signs his most luminous, charming, ethereal and romantically intoxicating film.
Top Gun Maverick by Joseph Kolinski
Avoiding the trap of nostalgia while reconnecting with the strong themes of the first film (which it far surpasses), Top Gun Maverick is a pure popcorn cinema pleasure that flies very high and reinforces the status of an extraordinary superstar of Tom Cruise. Dizzy.
Nope de Jordan Peel
Like a skilful mix between the signs by M. Night Shyamalan and the Encounter of the Third Kind de Spielberg, Nope has the look and flavor of the best Amblin productions of the 80’s, without ever trying to ape them or take up their codes. Here, we don’t do new with old: we try, we experiment, and the result gives a fantastic summer band that is both scary and fun that should make a lasting impression.
In Body by Cédric Klapisch
Le feel good movie de 2022. Cedric Klapisch has its best for an optimistic, luminous, inspiring film, brimming with charm. The dancer Marion Barbeau wonderfully embodies this young woman who finds the courage to give herself another chance.
Avatar The Waterway by James Cameron
The most visually insane blockbuster of 2022. Dazzling. Spectacular. Generous. Grand. Bluffing. Revolutionary. Impossible not to chain superlatives when leaving the projection ofAvatar The Way of the Water. One more time, James Cameron bluffs everyone and leaves the competition far but very far behind.
Cut! by Michel Hazanavicius
We laughed a lot in front Cut!. We find the madness, the tone and the impertinence of The American Class or the first two OSS 117 in a film that only looks tinkered with, so much we can guess the amount of work that was necessary to set up this crazy adventure of filming Z series in real time.
Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness de Sam Raimi
Every minute sweats the paw of Sam Raimi which shakes up the very codified and sanitized world of feature films Marvel to slip in his various obsessions. Armed with logic-defying camera movements and spectacular footage, the director ofEvil Dead signs the first horror film stamped MCU.
Red Rocket de Sean Baker
A raw and glaucous dive (but not devoid of very dark humor) in a decadent America in full decrepitude. Simon Rex is perfect as a toxic, manipulative, narcissistic and so pathetic male.
Nightmare Alley by Guillermo del Toro
Guillemo del Toro abandons fantastic monsters for the most nihilistic human darkness. A delight of creativity and visual finds for a film that will still haunt you long following the end credits.
The Batman de Matt Reeves
One of the best Batmans we’ve ever seen on the big screen. A real film noir plunging a young Bruce Wayne into the depths of the underworld of Gotham, an adaptation that takes the advantage of exploring facets of the character so far barely touched on live… Batman from Matt Reeves gives us a fresh look at the Dark Knight and lays the groundwork for what the DCU might be heading for.
As Beasts by Rodrigo Sorogoyen
A mountain thriller that tells the story of land and violence. The Spanish director shakes with such virtuosity that one is left speechless.
But also (and for many different reasons):
The Chef
Black Phone
The stars
The Northman
Athena
Lost Ball 2
The Visitor from the Future
