Books – Muhammad Emara:
Dr. Obada Sarhan, a member of the Board of Trustees of Hospital 57357, revealed the details of the current crisis at the Children’s Cancer Hospital.
Sarhan said, in his first official comment, to Masrawy, today, that: “Donations have decreased a lot during the last period,” pointing out that the hospital had more than one deposit in banks, “and regarding 3 months ago we discussed this matter by releasing the last deposit, and at that time some people said we will not release the deposit.” Because it is not a good thing, but I think it fell apart because of this, the world is turned upside down, and it has been said for two days.
He explained: “The current problem was mainly in the hospital branch in Tanta, because its expenses increased and rose due to the increase in the price of the dollar, which caused an increase in the prices of medicines and devices that are imported from abroad, which increased by more than 3 times, which prompted the hospital to transfer patients to university hospitals.”
Sarhan drew attention to the impact of these repercussions on the treatment of patients, as the hospital used to follow up on the child following treatment until 25 years old, before he was currently followed up at the age of 22 to reduce expenses.
And he said: “If the donations were good, we would not reduce the age to 22 years and reduce the number of pioneers, which are 18 thousand. And God knows the expenses are very large, because the proportion of medicines and chemotherapy is very expensive, and the operations are also very expensive. It is a problem, and it is not only 57, but we will suffer a lot from it.”
Regarding the hospital’s reliance on donations, Sarhan added: “There are two problems, the time of the corona crisis and the negative publicity that occurred due to the articles of some writers, and its entire time was spent, and whoever came back to donate once more was a 6-month endowment, and the issue of Tanta took a lot of money.”
