General Hospital actress Sonya Eddy dies at 55: she would have suffered an infection after surgery | TV and show

The actress had undergone a scheduled surgery on December 9, however, in the middle of the month she was admitted once more due to complications.

During the followingnoon of Tuesday, the death of the American actress and nurse Sonya Eddy was confirmed, known for her role as Epiphany Johnson in the series Hospital Generalat 55 years old.

In a statement published by the magazine Varietythe executive producer of Hospital General, Frank Valentini, assured that he was “heartbroken at the loss of the amazing Sonya Eddy. He really loved her not just as an actress, but as a friend.”

Eddy joined the medical drama in 2006, where she played a nurse who isn’t afraid to take on doctors. Total, Eddy played Nurse Johnson for 543 episodes, being his last appearance in an episode aired in October of this year.

In addition to being the head nurse, the actress starred in her own story by being the mother of Stan Johnson (Kiko Ellsworth), who was murdered in the drama in 2007, following a mob hit.

A post-operative infection

in conversation with TMZTyler Ford, producer and close friend of the actress, assured that Eddy had surgery scheduled for December 9ruling out that it was an emergency procedure.

He also noted that the actress was discharged on December 11, but, following feeling ill, she decided to return to the medical facility on December 15, when the doctors would have detected a serious infection following the operation.

According to Ford, the infection was uncontainable and last Monday the medical staff decided to put her on life support, dying the same day in the night.

In addition to Hospital General, Eddy also participated in productions such as CSI, Glee, Seinfeld, Patch Adams, 2 Broke Girls, Fresh Off The Boat and more.
