An RTL INFO team met this Tuesday morning with André Frédéric in the Walloon parliament to paint his portrait. The new president is due to take office on Wednesday morning. The 64-year-old from Liège was chosen to replace Jean-Claude Marcourt, entangled in a scandal of huge expenses and travel.
While André Frédéric is filmed chatting with our journalist, Jean-Claude Marcourt suddenly arrives to pick up some belongings left on the perch overlooking the assembly. This unexpected meeting between the old and the new president seems cold.
I said it was still your office
As you can see in the images, Jean-Claude Marcourt appears rather grumpy. His successor, obviously embarrassed, then tries to break the ice: “I did say it was still your office. And I didn’t want to sit in your place, you know, I said it wasn’t my place until tomorrow”.
“Absolutely”, replies the former president, hardly raising his head and muttering his answers in a tone that is far from friendly. Jean-Claude Marcourt then left parliament, refusing to answer our journalist’s questions.
