The leader of JxCat in the Parliament, Albert Batet, has assured this Tuesday, following knowing the decision of the Constitutional Court (TC) to prevent the vote in the Senate of the changes in the Judiciary: “Some have tried their medicine of what have done in Catalonia”.
In a press conference in the Parliament, Batet has assured that “the machinery of the TC came into full operation once morest Catalonia” as a result of the unilateral referendum of 1-O, and has accused the high court of having “violated the sovereignty” of the Catalan chamber when it prevented the telematic investiture of Carles Puigdemont.
Last night, the TC paralyzed, as requested by the PP, the parliamentary processing of the changes in the Judiciary and the TC itself, already approved by Congress and which were pending a vote in the Senate this Thursday, in an unprecedented decision in guarantee court.
“It returns to them like a boomerang,” Batet has indicated in this regard, at the same time that he has disfigured the PSOE’s “double yardstick” in relation to the actions of the TC.
Likewise, Batet has accused the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, of having a “selective memory” for having “forgotten” what happened in Parliament “with the complicity of the PSOE”, alluding to the autumn of 2017.
“According to the Socialists, when the TC has acted arbitrarily once morest Parliament, it is to protect the rule of law, but when it is due to laws that they have made or promoted in the general courts, it is a violation of democracy. What are we left with? “Batet wondered.
In JxCat’s opinion, the State “is irreformable”, although it has said that they would be “willing to talk” regarding a “fundamental” legislative reform in the Congress of Deputies in relation to the Judiciary.
