Multi-instrumentalist Steven Bailey and band performed at the Alte Schlosserei in Wehr. Their repertoire: improvisations and rock classics – but also soft tones.
The music was as diverse as the band – Bailey is American, Hope Canadian and Eva Ka Greek. It started with a bass violin improvisation in the Bailey Hope duo, who have been playing together for 25 years. “It’s drinking music,” Bailey greeted the audience following the first improv interlude. The evening continued with hits such as “Hotel California” by the Eagles and singer-songwriter songs, with which Eva Ka played her way into the hearts of the around 20 over-50 guests, especially the slower tracks.
The evening was anything but politically correct: bassist Hope came on stage too late – Bailey threw out one saying following the other: “You in the audience. You look like Annalena Baerbock. I hope it’s not really you, Annalena. ” Meanwhile, host Gérard Reichert filled the shot glasses of the guests and the band with ouzo at regular intervals. Multi-talented, entertainer through and through, Bailey delivered on every level.
Eva Ka stumbled with the faster songs; two rounds of ouzo later, however, she sang her way into the roughest hearts in the back seats with slow-paced songs.
“From a boy who never saw his father. Pour once more, because I feel the longing once more. In this city I’ll always be a stranger – and all alone.” No soft-washed pop songs from modern times, but a rough voice and real lyrics.
Born in Virginia, Steven Bailey has been living in Germany for almost 30 years. You can find him in Europa-Park in Rust in the “Silver Lake Salon”, the “Rock-Café” or on the stages of various other bars and restaurants. In Rust he also runs the “Rooster”, a small “Bed and Breakfast” near Europa-Park.
