TEMPE, Arizona | The Canadian did not offer his best performance of the season, but he found a way to end his three-game losing streak yesterday at Mullett Arena.
Mike Hoffman’s goal 1:08 into overtime gave the visitors a 3-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes. “It wasn’t a perfect game for us and we know it,” said head coach Martin St-Louis. I think we got better as the game progressed.
“The first was not good, the second a bit better, but I liked our third. »
Samuel Montembeault and Christian Dvorak had their say in this first triumph of this seven-game road trip.
“Christian, it’s rare that he doesn’t show up,” praised St-Louis. In the first period, he received a throw to the ear. He’s tough. I’m glad he was rewarded with the equalizer. »
Montembeault se signale
For his part, Montembeault repelled 37 of 39 shots aimed at him. He was brilliant especially in the first period with 17 saves.
” It’s the fun to receive shots early in the game, said the goaltender. They came out strong in first and they were very aggressive on the forecheck. They were always in our face.”
Even though he was dominated by the Coyotes, the Canadian managed to score the first goal of the game. Cole Caufield scored his 19e goal of the season with a beautiful performance by Kaiden Guhle who carried the puck into the opposing zone.
Guhle played yet another great game. It’s fascinating to watch him play. He has an uncommon ease and confidence for a player of his age.
History repeats itself for Juraj Slafkovsky. Another game, another solid check once morest him. While he still had his head down in the neutral zone, he was hit by defender Shayne Gostisbehere who is less heavy than him. Guess he hasn’t learned his lesson yet.
Speaking of Slafkovsky, he committed a costly turnover on the blue line that led to the Coyotes’ first goal. We don’t know if it’s for this reason, but he was transferred to the fourth line in the last 20 minutes of the game.
Good first impression
In his first meeting in three years in the NHL, Anthony Richard played a good game. He got at least three scoring chances.
Before the game, Martin St-Louis wanted the Quebecer to use his speed to stand out. That’s exactly what he did. He’s proven he can hold his own in the NHL.
“I felt good,” said Richard. Playing with Jake (Evans) and Joel (Armia) helped me a lot at the start. I am satisfied with what I brought today (yesterday).
“I managed to bring the same game that I was playing in the American League, but more aggressively. I haven’t checked my text messages, but I’m pretty sure my dad is going to tell me I was too generous. »
In the third period, when St. Louis shuffled his lines, Richard found himself with Jonathan Drouin and Josh Anderson. A great promotion for the freshly recalled player from the Laval Rocket.
+
Jonathan Drouin
The Quebecer had an excellent game Since his return to the game, Martin St-Louis placed him in the center and he responded well to the call Against the Coyotes, he worked and he showed commitment in his game
–
Joel Armia
He is unable to buy a goal Even Anthony Richard tried to help him end his drought Yet there are plenty of opportunities to do so The Finn’s playing time does not decrease even if he does not produce offensively

What we noticed…
No first goals yet
For a sixth game in a row, the Canadian did not score in the first period. A chance that Samuel Montembeault has multiplied the stops in front of his net to keep his team in the game. Worse still, Habs players struggled to create scoring chances.
Dvorak pays the price
Christian Dvorak had a painful evening. The center player was hit in the face by a shot from Nick Suzuki in the first period. After a few minutes in the locker room, he returned to the Canadian bench. Then, in the second period, he was hit by a stick in a corner battle.
A unique atmosphere
Several things have been said and written regarding the Mullett Arena since the start of the season. However, when we are there, we see that the Coyotes bet is interesting. They are able to fill the bleachers and the atmosphere is surprising. As for journalists, we had choice places to do our work.
Hell season for Matheson
Michael Matheson did not accompany the team for the start of this trip. He is still bothered by a lower body injury. His absence is indefinite. The Quebec defender missed his 22nd game of the campaign yesterday. An absence that hurts with a numerical advantage unit that is looking for itself.
