A management representative announced the final closing date on Monday during a special works council, explains Johan Van Loon, from the ACV Puls union. The company will then be put into liquidation or bankruptcy. “I think the decision will not take long, it will probably already fall on January 4, because each additional day costs the company money.”
The Makro Cash & Carry Belgium group had obtained protection once morest its creditors by the Antwerp company court in September until mid-January. This decision was followed by a procedure for the sale of all or part of the chain of stores. The group included 11 stores of the catering wholesaler Metro, nine of which were taken over by the Dutch group Sligro, and six stores of the supermarket chain Makro. Only an offer was made for Makro stores, but it was rejected.
