Qatari support to Lebanon continues… a new gift

The Minister of Public Health in the caretaker government, Firas Al-Abyad, received a donation of medicines provided by the “Qatar Red Crescent” funded by the “Qatar Charity Foundation”, in a meeting attended by the advisor of Qatar’s ambassador to Lebanon, Ali Mutawa, and the director of the Qatari Red Crescent mission in Lebanon, Dr. Muhammad Al-Sousi.

The donation includes regarding four hundred and thirty-one thousand medicine boxes (431,308) for eleven (11) items of chronic disease medicines most in need, according to the Ministry of Public Health regulations.

The equivalent of seventy percent of these medicines will be provided to the Ministry of Public Health for free distribution to patients through primary health care centers spread across various Lebanese regions, provided that thirty percent of the remaining amount will be provided to the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities for distribution to pharmacies of the Internal Security Forces. .

In a speech by the White Minister, he noted that this donation “constitutes a continuation of the continuous and grateful Qatari support for Lebanon, especially projects related to the hospital sector, including support for government hospitals through a donation of diesel fuel exceeding five million dollars, which allowed these hospitals to continue providing services in the current difficult period.” In addition to supporting Karantina Hospital through directing the new building project adjacent to the hospital at a value of regarding twenty million dollars, and other support for other hospitals.

He also pointed to “the many important programs offered by the Qatar Red Crescent in Lebanon to help the Lebanese and the displaced, the most prominent of which was the recent fruitful cooperation to provide safe drinking water in Arsal for the Lebanese and the displaced, as well as the provision of this safe water in other places in Lebanon.”

The Minister of Public Health affirmed, “The important thing regarding this support is that it is provided without any request. Rather, the Qatari brothers affirm that what they provide is part of the moral duty towards the Lebanese.”

The White Minister expressed his sincere thanks, adding that “those who do not thank people do not thank God,” hoping that “the situation in Lebanon will improve.”

In turn, Al-Sousi noted that “the constructive cooperation that the Qatar Red Crescent receives from the Ministry of Public Health constitutes a motive for continuing and presenting more projects with the support and blessing of the Qatari Embassy in Beirut.”

As for the gift of medicines, Al-Sousi thanked Qatar Charity, which provided the funding, and the WMCA organization, which undertakes the task of distributing medicines to dispensaries within a protocol signed with the Ministry of Public Health. He announced that “the drug project is included in the Red Crescent’s plan for the year 2023, and this donation is part of it because the project will continue.”

He said, “We will do everything we can for Lebanon to recover and to help its people and all residents on its land, and this will be strengthened during the next year.”
