Los New York Yankees lost in free agency MLB the possibility of adding pieces to his outfield with the signings of Andrew Benintendi and Michael Brantley with the Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros, respectively.
But the latest rumors in the Big leagues point out that Bronx team management already has another candidate on the radar, one who was a Gold Glove winner.
A report by Ken Rosenthal for The Athletic affirms that the new objective of the Yankees from New York is center fielder Michael Taylor, who is in the final year of his contract with the Kansas City Royals and will earn $4.5 million in 2023.
The Royals are listening to offers for Taylor, “a below-average hitter and an above-average defenseman,” Rosenthal described. In 2022 he hit .254 with nine home runs and won the Gold Glove in 2021.
The Yankees made big moves in free agency, acquiring left-hander Carlos Rodón for the rotation and securing the return of key players like Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo.
But if there is a player whose production will be key for New York in 2023, it is Giancarlo Stanton. With Josh Donaldson coming off a bad offensive year and DJ LeMahieu in question with injuries, the slugger will have a starring role if he’s healthy. It is enough to see that he has hit 66 home runs in the last two seasons to understand his weight in Aaron Boone’s lineup.
Two weeks have passed since the agreement that will make Aaron Judge a Yankee player for the next 9 years was announced and his official presentation has not yet taken place. Many speculate that there he might be named Derek Jeter’s successor as team captain.
That decision, manager Brian Cashman explained to the MLB portal in October, rests solely with the club’s owner, Hal Steinbrenner, the man who sealed Judge’s return to the Bronx.
“I have not been tasked with appointing a captain,” Cashman added. “It is not in the hands of the manager. It is not in the hands of the general manager. The owner is the one who decides. I wasn’t sure if we’d need another captain, but that doesn’t mean another one isn’t worthy. Definitely, in the case of Aaron Judge, he is spectacular.
