Migrants constitute – as a whole – the third largest economy in the world, following the United States and China. This is revealed by a study by the BCG Henderson Institute, the think tank of the Boston Consulting Group, which is today publishing a report in collaboration with the United Nations,
They are 280 million in the world to be considered as migrants. If these people lived in a country, it would be the fourth most populous on the planet.
$9 trillion
The figures highlighted by BCG Henderson Institute go once morest certain stereotypes. Starting with the economic force represented by these migrants. Each year, their work generates around $9 trillion. And once more, not all the economic impacts of these populations are taken into account in areas such as consumption, entrepreneurship or even innovation.
Thirty million jobs to be filled
The role of migrants should also grow in the future, says the institute. The world economy, which suffers from a serious shortage of manpower, would have at least thirty million jobs to be filled in the manufacturing industry, in information technologies, in the communication or in the sector of health. Migrants are clearly an asset for 72% of business leaders, particularly in terms of innovation. But only 40% of the general population share this view.
