PRESS RELEASE FROM THE MINISTER OF HEALTH, PUBLIC HYGIENE AND UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO CARE
Togo is gradually entering the dry season period, where the harmattan blows, which is characterized by a dry wind loaded with dust and fine sand particles.
This dry and dusty nature of the harmattan basically causes dryness of the skin, the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract and deterioration of local immunity, thus increasing the risk of infection by microbes.
These microbes can be responsible for respiratory and neurological diseases, including meningitis, which is an infectious, contagious and serious disease. It is mainly manifested by a sudden onset of high fever, neck stiffness, coma or altered consciousness, headaches, vomiting and seizures.
To prevent these diseases, during this harmattan period, the Minister in charge of Health invites the population to adopt the following measures:
. avoid staying in a dusty environment or protect your nose and mouth once morest dust;
. wash your hands regularly with soap and water;
. protect your nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing;
. protect themselves and children especially at night;
. avoid close contact with sick people;
.Get vaccinated once morest meningitis: vaccination is the most effective preventive measure;
. go to the nearest health facility in case of cough, cold, flu or any other symptom for adequate and rapid care.
The Minister of Health, Hygiene and Universal Access to Care invites the population to be vigilant by adopting the measures listed above in order to preserve their health.
