Last night was the coldest of the year: here are the localities in which records were broken

It was also the coldest night in several other locations across the country. This was particularly the case in Chièvres in the province of Hainaut (-9.5 degrees), in Dourbes in the province of Namur (-10.8), in Zaventem in Flemish Brabant (-7.2 degrees) and in Sint-Katelijne-Waver in the province of Antwerp (-8.9 degrees).

On the other hand, in the provinces of Liège and Luxembourg, the night of December 14 to 15 was even colder.

What’s the weather for the next few days? Watch out for ice on the roads

Sunday will begin with sunny weather before giving way over the hours to cloudy skies and the first rains, according to the morning report of the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM). It will be cold with highs between -2 and +3 degrees at the end of the followingnoon.

After a sunny start to Sunday with severe frosts, the cloudiness will gradually increase from the west with the arrival of a rainy area at the end of the day.

These “first rains might be freezing since they will fall on ground that is still frozen. The conditions will then be particularly slippery.

This risk of ice mainly concerns the Ardennes where it might last several hours. Elsewhere in the country, ice will also be temporarily possible in places,” said the institute, which extended its yellow alert for slippery conditions until 4 a.m. next night.

At the end of the followingnoon, temperatures will reach values of 0 to +3 degrees in lower and middle Belgium and 0 to -3 degrees in the Ardennes. The wind will generally become moderate and veer from southeast to south.

On the heights of the Ardennes and in the north of the Ardennes, the wind will locally become quite strong with gusts of 50 to 70 km/h. Windy conditions will prevail later tonight with rain and temperatures turning positive across all regions.

As for the last week before the winter holidays (Christmas), it will be variable and windy with quite a few clouds and periods of rain. The sweetness will also follow the freezing cold of recent days. On Monday, it will initially be rainy in many places. The weather will then become drier with even clearings from the south. The maxima will be mild, oscillating between 4 and 10 degrees, under a sustained wind.

The rest of the week promises to be variable and windy with significant cloud cover and periods of rain. Softness will remain with maximums around 10 degrees in the center.
