Eggs are an important food item that everyone prefers to eat, because of its delicious taste. However, many of us do not see it as a healthy food, and they think that it is the cause of high cholesterol, so some get rid of it.
Dr. and chemistry researcher Priyanka Sehrawat participated in a video clip on her personal page with “Instagram”, regarding whether egg yolks are harmful to health or not, according to the “Times of India” website.
Priyanka emphasized that the nutritional composition of the egg white and yolk are different and equally important.
She continued, “The egg white contains a large amount of protein and vitamin B2, but the yolk contains various vitamins and minerals that are very important to our body.”
“It contains fat-soluble vitamins such as Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, and Omega-3, which is a healthy fatty acid that boosts our immunity,” she adds.
She pointed out that eating a whole egg provides a balanced amount of protein, vitamins and minerals.
Egg yolks are rich in selenium:
It is an important nutrient that improves hair and nail health, boosts immunity, and also plays a role in thyroid health.
Its deficiency leads to Keshan disease, a type of cardiomyopathy.
Signs of selenium deficiency:
Nausea, vomiting, headache, confusion, lethargy, seizures, and sometimes coma.
Egg yolks are also rich in essential nutrients such as Vitamin A, D, E, and K, folic acid, vitamin B12, and the amino acids tryptophan and tyrosine.
It also consists of potassium, sodium, zinc, magnesium, phosphorus and iron in trace amounts.
Also, one large egg contains 55 calories, 2.5 grams of protein, 4.5 grams of fat and 0.61 grams of carbohydrates.
