In order to recognize the importance of traditional medicine that is part of the knowledge of the Otomí-Tepehua peoples, the Ministry of Tourism will hold the event Claiming Traditional Medicine in the Otomí – Tepehua – Náhuatl Zone, which will take place on Sunday, December 18. in Acaxochitlan.

This was announced by Agael Hernández Islas, medicine woman and workshop leader of the program, who explained that 100 traditional doctors from the municipalities of San Bartolo, Huehuetla and Acaxochitlán will participate, who will meet at 10 in the morning in the municipal auditorium of Acaxochitlán, where there will also be sale of natural products.

For his part, Juan Vargas Martínez, a traditional doctor and coordinator of the project, mentioned that with this type of event it is intended to make the population aware of the treatment of diseases through herbs, massages and temazcales, since sometimes They come to confuse them with witches because of the clothes they wear or they are scammed as charlatans.

While Arturo Castelán Zacatenco, Secretary of Tourism of the municipality of Acaxochitlán, spoke of the importance of recognition and respect for traditional medicine as a living traditional expression; He also highlighted that traditional medicine is not an issue specific to Acaxochitlán, since it is carried out in other municipalities, but this topic is valued so much that it already has a traditional medicine day on November 20, since this tradition It has been transmitted from generation to generation through the centuries.
