Oregon: Retiring governor Katie Brown has spared the death penalty for all 17 of the state’s death row inmates, declaring that the practice of lethal injection is unethical. Sentenced to life imprisonment (without parole). The governor signed the order in this regard on December 14.
After taking office as governor in 2015, Katy announced a moratorium on the death penalty. But the death penalty law still exists in the state. After the death penalty law came into force in the state in 1984, it was not implemented until 1996.
I understand the agony of the family members who lost their lives to the brutality of the accused while using the power vested in the Governor to avoid the death penalty of 17 persons. I also understand the pain of those who have been sentenced to death and have been in jail for years,” the governor said.
Katy Brown, who will remain in office until January 9, 2023, and then Governor Tina Kottak, is of the opinion that a moratorium on the death penalty is needed.
