The digital sector did even better than expected in 2022, according to Numeum. In its half-yearly study, unveiled this morning, relating to the 2022 results and the 2023 outlook for the sector, the professional organization estimates that the digital market has grown by 7.5% in 2022 to 60.9 billion euros. This is 0.1% better than the 7.4% anticipated in its previous half-yearly study last July.

In detail, the ESN market grew by 5.1% to 31.9 billion euros (52.4%), that of software publishers and cloud platforms by 11.3% to 21.6 billion euros. euros (35.5%) and that of engineering and technology consulting companies from 7.4% to 7.4 billion euros (12.1%).

The sector’s five main growth levers were: the Cloud (a €15.3 billion market with cloud-related consulting and system integration, up 24.5%); digital transformation (€7.6 billion/+10.2%); IoT (€5.9 billion/+19.1%); security (€3.3 billion/+11.3%) and big data (€2.3 billion/+22.1%).

After 34,000 net creations of salaried jobs in the sector in 2021, recruitment remains on the rise for 66% of respondents in the second half of 2022. In fact, the war for talents continues to rage and encourage companies to redouble their efforts. efforts to retain their employees. Among the most popular means of loyalty building: teleworking (implemented by 72% of digital companies); more training (64%) and inclusion in specific career plans (52%).

In a press release, Numeum explains that, according to APEC, private sector companies are above all looking for executives in the IT development professions (4 out of 10 job offers). The industrial and technical IT professions and those of big data show the strongest growth in terms of job offers in the first half of 2022 compared to the first half of 2021.

It should be noted that the impact of the economic situation has been fairly moderate so far on both digital companies and customers: only 32% of digital companies have felt an impact this year and 31% anticipate one. next year. And while nearly two-thirds of CIOs* (62%) felt an impact in 2022, it remains weak or moderate for 81% of them. But for 83% of digital leaders, the magnitude of the impact will be greater in 2023.

We will also remember from the past year, the irruption on the front of the stage of the theme of responsible digital technology. 93% of CIOs say they carry out calls for tenders with CSR criteria and 76% of digital companies have responded to at least one call for tenders including CSR criteria. A quarter of CIOs (28%) say they have IT projects to support the “business” CSR challenges of their company and 57% will have them in 2023.

For 2023, the outlook remains very positive, although slightly decelerating with expected growth of the digital market of +5.9% to €64.5 billion. ESNs are expected to grow by 3.7%, publishers and cloud platforms by 9.4% and technology consulting activities by 5.6%.

As for CIOs, the majority (55%) are expecting rising budgets. A third of respondents expect their budget to stabilize and 11% to decrease. Their main areas of concern are: information system security (for 62% of CIOs), data analysis (49%) and improving the customer experience (43%).
