The rapid spread of the epidemic in the mainland has exceeded external expectations. An article on the Internet in the Mainland was titled “Let’s let go for a week, half of the circle of friends will be sunny.” It tells the story of a large number of friends becoming “sun” following the relaxation of epidemic control measures in December. After reading it, I was half-believed and asked my friends who had companies in the mainland. One was in Beijing and the other was in Shenzhen. One said that the company’s colleagues were 70% positive, and the other said 50%. From this point of view, the statement that “the circle of friends is half positive” is not an exaggeration.
In addition, a large number of employees of central ministries and commissions in Beijing have also been diagnosed, and some departments have said that “it is estimated that half of them are positive.” Some important departments, such as the China Securities Regulatory Commission and the Bank of China Insurance Regulatory Commission, have half of the staff left behind. The left-behind staff live in the office for a period of time and do not go home to ensure that there are enough manpower to maintain the operation of the department, and they will be rotated following a period of time.
Medical staff is the most concerned. Zeng Guang, the former chief scientist of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said that the storm of the new crown epidemic has come too fast, and many medical staff have been infected. How to ensure the normal operation of hospitals has become the focus. In addition to calling on retired medical staff to return to work, Beijing also proposed emergency response measures. Among the medical staff, patients with asymptomatic infections and mild symptoms insisted on going to work, just like “minor injuries cannot go to the front line” during wartime. Only in this way can we guarantee the 24-hour operation of the fever clinic and do a good job in the diagnosis, treatment and rescue of moderate and severe patients. According to the reasons for the diagnosis of mild cases, medical care for confirmed patients will indeed not increase the risk of spreading the epidemic.
Observing the epidemic situation in the Mainland, there are a few points worthy of attention:
First, the Mainland uses “Breakthrough Therapy”. The pace of relaxation of epidemic prevention in the Mainland is unexpected. Before the mainland launched the “Twenty Measures”, many people who expected to loosen control were afraid that the authorities would take two steps forward and take one step back. But in the end, the Central Expressway “turned the wave” and fully released it. This is a conscious breakthrough. In just two weeks following the end of November, except for the “5+3” quarantine restrictions on immigrants, the rest of the epidemic prevention measures were almost completely relaxed. What the public felt was that “I thought it would be sunny when I went downstairs, but I didn’t know it would be the same when I stayed at home.” Some people say that you are not ready if you let it go so quickly, but I think that even if you give it half a year or a year, you will not be ready. The long-term pain is worse than the short-term pain.
Second, the medical run is not as severe as imagined. Although people in Beijing are rushing to buy medical supplies, many confirmed patients lined up outside the outpatient clinics of hospitals. Last Sunday (December 11), there were 22,000 patients in the city’s fever clinics, 16 times that of a week ago. But it doesn’t feel as chaotic and helpless as when the epidemic broke out in Hong Kong in February and March.
Third, the public has strong psychological endurance. It may be because there are too many experiences of overseas outbreaks, or it may be because there are really few severe cases. The people in the mainland have been panicking half a month ago, and quickly changed to respond calmly. They even posted continuously during the recuperation period. Seemingly different reasons: “Guangzhou people: quiet and yang. Shanghai people: whether yang is yang or not is my privacy. Beijing people: I am full of energy and I am yang.”
Fourth, pass the flood peak quickly. According to the reports of confirmed cases in the Mainland, “most of them develop a fever and recover within three or four days.” The disadvantage of using “breakthrough therapy” in the mainland is that half of the people will be diagnosed in a short period of time, which will increase the number of severe cases year-on-year and squeeze the medical system. But the good thing is that the flood peaks come and go quickly. I believe that following next week, the peak of the epidemic in many major cities in the mainland will have passed. A large number of confirmed patients recovered within three or four days, and the labor force recovered in large numbers. The time for the outbreak to affect society was also shortened, and the return to normal was faster. It is true that the long-term pain is not as good as the short-term pain.
Everything in China is high-speed, and it is unexpected that the outbreak is the same.
