Fernando Santos left the Portugal national team.
Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) announced the termination of cooperation with the 68-year-old specialist. He has served as head coach since September 2014.
“The FPF thanks Fernando Santos and his coaching staff for their services over eight unique years and believes that this gratitude is also expressed on behalf of the Portuguese people,” the federation said in a statement.
Under the leadership of Santos, the Portuguese national team won Euro 2016 and the Nations League 2019. At the 2022 World Cup, the Portuguese reached the 1/4 finals, where they lost to Morocco (0:1).
Santos played 109 matches for Portugal, scoring 67 wins, 19 losses and 23 draws.
Reportedthat Rui Vitoria, Jorge Jesus, Rui Jorge, Paulo Bento, Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Souza and José Mourinho are candidates for the post of coach of the national team.
