Iman Vellani, who plays Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel, reveals the advice she received from fellow MCU actor Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury.
Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani reveals she got some simple but very thoughtful advice from veteran MCU actor Samuel L. Jackson. Released on Disney+ earlier this year, creator Bisha K. Ali’s lighthearted series features Vellani’s hero for the first time in the MCU. Ms. Marvel received positive reviews from audiences and critics, who praised Vellani’s humor, emotion, and charismatic performance. Vellani’s hero is set to play a much bigger role in the future of the MCU and will appear in The Marvels in 2023.
Although the two actors didn’t work together on Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan and Jackson’s Nick Fury will apparently share the screen in Marvels, with Vellani now revealing that she asked her co-star for advice during filming. In a recent interview with AP Entertainment, Vellani shares that Jackson had some simple yet powerful advice for his acting career. Check out Vellani’s full comment below:
“I remember when Sam Jackson was on set, I had a whole list of questions to ask him. And I asked him, ‘What is the best characteristic of an actor?’ Or something like that. And he was like, ‘Patience.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, Sam, you’re right. Patience.’ And then following that, I never complained, never. If something took longer than five minutes, or ten minutes, or if it got on set and didn’t even work, that’s part of the job and you have to understand that there are so many moving parts. It’s like a small world, constantly moving around you, and you don’t know where to put yourself. So you really have to work with and appreciate how many people and organizations work to create this one or two hour film. movie, or whatever.
What’s Next For Ms. Marvel In The MCU
While the Ms. Marvel storyline as a whole isn’t too earth-shattering in terms of the larger scope of the MCU, it’s revealed in the final episode that Kamala is a mutant. This reveal marked the first major unveiling of mutants and has since been followed by several others, including Patrick Stewart’s Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The reveal of Ms. Marvel’s mutant should ultimately lead to the introduction of the X-Men into the MCU, but it’s unclear exactly when that will happen or what it will mean for Kamala.
In the immediate term, however, Vellani’s hero is set to play a pretty big role in The Marvels, a sequel to the 2019 film starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers. As teased in the Ms. Marvel post-credits scene, the next MCU Phase 5 adventure is set to follow Larson’s Captain Marvel, Kamala, and Monica Rambeau (Tayonah Parris) as they begin to swap places each time. as they use their powers, leading the three heroes to team up. Details are forthcoming regarding The Marvels, but the project might end up being very important in the larger scheme of the multiverse saga.
Beyond her role in The Marvels, it’s unclear what’s next for Kamala. With the MCU now having introduced several younger heroes, it’s possible Vellani’s character will find himself a member of the Young Avengers alongside others like Ironheart (Riri Williams), Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) and Skar. (Will Deusner), and others. For now, though, Ms. Marvel and Vellani seem to have a bright future ahead of them.
