Liberia: An alleged Ivorian arrested in Maryland with narcotics

A suspected Ivorian fisherman has been arrested and is being investigated in Maryland County, southeastern Liberiafor illegal possession of narcotics.

The suspect, Nyan Sackor, was arrested on Wednesday December 7th with 20 packages of high quality marijuana on the sea near Harper City. An investigation was opened while the suspect was remanded in custody in Maryland.

According to the Liberian Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), quoted by the national radio of Liberia, the alleged Ivorian national who is 53 years old was arrested in possession of narcotics worth more than 500,000 Liberian dollars, or a sum of just over 2 million CFA francs. Sackor admitted transporting the illegal substances from Cess Town to Harper but said they were given to him by a friend.

On the outlines of the arrest, LDEA Maryland Commander Joseph Tegeddine said Saccor was arrested following receiving reports that the suspect was in possession of a large quantity of narcotic substances.
