‘A real struggle’: ‘Dahmer’ actor reveals why he accepted the role

Evan Peters reveals why he decided to accept the role of Jeffrey Dahmer

Evan Peters faced an internal struggle to accept the role of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

In a joint interview with series creator Ryan Murphy for Variety, the actor admitted that it was his trust in his collaborator that ultimately convinced him to tackle the character.

“It was a real struggle. I really thought regarding it and tried to do it. I went back and forth in my head a lot. I knew you bring an amazing support system, that I trust you and there is honesty. I knew that, in order to end this thing as hard as I started it, you would create a big safety net. If I fell, I might get back up and we might finish this project. I was up for the challenge,” he revealed.

In addition to the mental effort he had to provide to play Dahmer, Evan Peters also transformed physically for the role, starting by following a diet without carbohydrates or sugar to lose six kilos.

Despite receiving his first Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal, Evan Peters has revealed he hopes to get more fun roles in the future. “I’m going to take a little break from the darker roles and explore the light. It would be interesting for me to play something that’s a little closer to me, a little more mundane, and explore the details of those kinds of experiences,” he explained.

Evan Peters and Ryan Murphy have worked together on most seasons of American Horror Story since 2011. Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story premiered on Netflix in September.
