The risky power game of the nuclear powers on the roof of the world

Several soldiers were injured in new clashes in the Himalayas. The fear of an escalation is great.

Asia’s rival nuclear giants have come dangerously close once more on the roof of the world: soldiers from both countries were apparently slightly injured in new clashes between Indian and Chinese troops in the north-east Indian Himalayan district of Tawang at an altitude of more than 4,500 meters.

The incident took place last week but was not publicized until Tuesday, when India’s defense minister, Rajnath Singh, informed parliament that Chinese soldiers had entered Indian territory and “attempted to unilaterally change the status quo” of the border. Then there was fighting.
