Tim Cook admitted that the iPhone cameras are built on Sony image sensors

Apple CEO Tim Cook has publicly acknowledged for the first time that the iPhone cameras use Sony image sensors. About this he informed on Twitter while visiting the Sony Camera Development Center in Kumamoto, Japan. However, this can hardly be called a secret, since the fact that Sony sensors are used in the iPhone has long been established in the process of disassembling devices by companies such as iFixit.

Apple keeps secret information regarding the suppliers of components used in the iPhone and other devices. Apple’s website usually just lists the iPhone’s camera specifications, such as resolution, aperture, and angle of view, without specifying the components used. But this time, Tim Cook decided to pay tribute to the long cooperation with the Japanese company.

“We’ve partnered with Sony for over a decade to create the world’s best camera sensors for the iPhone”Cook wrote on Twitter, thanking Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida and his team for showing him around the Kumamoto facility.

Tim Cook’s visit to the Sony facility confirms that the company intends to continue cooperation. According to a recent Nikkei Asia publication, Sony developed an advanced image sensor with a new architecture, which is expected to be used in the next generation of the iPhone and will also be supplied to other smartphone manufacturers.
