According to Emmy’s account, in the morning they did not get an ambulance to take Remy Sylado. They just got an ambulance at 12.00 WIB.
At that time, Remy Sylado had not eaten yet, the family was also afraid that the writer would become dehydrated.
“It turns out that I asked for an ambulance not to be available, for East Jakarta it will only be available following 12 noon, I want it in the morning, because I haven’t eaten all day for fear of dehydration right,” said Emmy once more.
Emmy once more explained that in the morning she gave coffee milk to Remy Sylado. At that time Remy Sylado might still speak, but it was not so clear.
Before long, Remy Sylado gave a worrying response. His breath began to weaken and make the family panic. He breathed his last moments later.
“In the end I didn’t see him leave, my sister said he was not breathing. When I came it was all cold,” Emmy continued, crying.
Pain history
Novelist Ca Bau Kan’s health condition has declined since he had a third stroke in October 2022. Emmy told detikcom regarding this in early 2022.
“Before the third stroke, previously had the first and second strokes in the period 2011 to 2020,” said Emmy.
His condition began to decline following the third stroke. According to Emmy, there was another illness that made Remy Sylado undergo dialysis twice.
“So the first time it was because there was poisoning in his stomach, the doctor kept removing it. There were 2.5 liters in his stomach, because the whole stomach was enlarged. It was hard,” he said.
“During the CT scan, the doctor saw if there was poison in his stomach and following that he operated on it, removed it. That was around October 10, 2020,” continued Emmy.
For two months, Remy Sylado underwent treatment at the hospital. On December 30, 2020, he was ordered to undergo outpatient care at home.
“After December 30, 2020, he returned home, the doctor told him to go home because the COVID-19 cases were high once more. Went home to undergo acupuncture with electricity, he had been doing it for two months and stopped, he was told to send physiotherapy from the hospital. One visit, Rp. 250,000, ‘ said Emmy.
Unfortunately due to the thinning financial condition, the physiotherapy was stopped. Remy Sylado also did not receive any medical treatment and only herbs that his family gave him.
Two months ago, Remy Sylado complained of pain when urinating and defecating. It turned out that the family’s guess was true.
Remy Sylado suffered from a hernia and was operated on at the Tarakan Hospital in January 2022. At that time, Anies Baswedan, who was still serving as the Governor of DKI Jakarta, also visited him and promised that the government would cover the medical expenses.
Anies Baswedan’s promise
Until the end of his life, Remy Sylado was still actively writing. In early January, his wife, Emmy Tambajong, said that there was one last novel by the artist that had not yet been published.
The novel is titled Brower. However, Remy Sylado already had the idea for a storyline and at that time the script had not yet been typed out.
“You haven’t been able to type all this time. So there’s already a storyline in mind. It’s just that it hasn’t been written down yet. Hopefully, yes (following recovering),” Emmy said when talking to detik.com.
According to Emmy, when Anies Baswedan visited him, he had been given advice so that Remy Sylado was enthusiastic regarding fighting his pain. And hope to recover soon as usual once more.
“That’s why you have to be healthy first, you have to be able to sit and type. So that it becomes a script,” he continued.
Even then, Anies Baswedan promised to pay for the entire process of publishing Remy Sylado’s novel apart from the medical expenses during his illness. But unfortunately, until death took him, his body condition did not allow him to work on story ideas from the novel.
The man whose full name is Japi Panda Abdiel Tambajong is the figure who initiated the poem ‘Mbeling’ around 1972. At that time, it was the New Order era and many artists were silenced.
In the realm of literature, the poem ‘Mbeling’ goes beyond existing boundaries and conventions. Unlike the previous generation which was full of rhymes, Mbeling appears as is, even the words and letters used by Remy Sylado are odd.
In various interviews, Remy Sylado explained that mbeling poetry exists as a reservoir for creativity for young people. It’s out of date, the poem is tied to the same words as well as rhymes. Mbeling itself means naughty, unruly, and rebellious in Javanese.
