Let’s be honest with you: before entering l’exposition Bond in Motion, to which we were invited, we knew very little regarding the films of the James Bond saga. For us, it came down quite briefly to “007”, Adele’s music and crazy cars, as the other would say. It is the latter that are discussed in l’exposition Bond in Motioninstalled at Brussels Expo for a few days.
As for our verdict? We left with the desire to devour all the films. Yes, just that.
It must be said that fans of the English spy and beautiful cars will be delighted. Orchestrated in three big (very big) spaces – the vehicles of air, water and earth, – this retrospective of the most iconic pieces marvelously narrates the most perilous and hair-raising exploits of the charismatic James. Each vehicle or object is accompanied by a screen showing the excerpt from the film with which it is associated (from “James Bond vs. Dr. No” to “Dying Can Wait” via “Goldeye” or even “Skyfall”), with a text relating the story, in French, English and Dutch.
A silver Aston Martin riddled with bullets (“To Die Can Wait”), an AS365 helicopter in full crash (“Spectre”), a London Underground in full derailment (“Skyfall”): the quantity of original parts offered is pharaonic and a large attention to the scenography seems to have been paid by the teams of Bond in Motion. Everywhere, the light seems to sublimate the object and reveal all its contours, highlighting details that would have been even impossible to see in the film. We have the impression of reliving the scene alongside its actor (Daniel Craig, Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan, among others), so much so that the exhibition sometimes borders on immersion, for our greatest pleasure.
Offering beyond the James Bond universe a real whiff of pop culture that can win over all audiences, from the seasoned fan to the misunderstandings that we were: such is the strength of l’exposition Bond in Motion, until January 31, 2023 at Brussels Expo. At the end of the exhibition, an incredible reconstructed English restaurant-bar offers you something to drink and snack on while rewatching excerpts from the 007 films. This exhibition is already shaping up to be cult…
