The position of the President of the Walloon Parliament Jean-Claude Marcourt is increasingly delicate. He was let go by his own party, following the revelations in #Investigation magazine regarding his luxurious trip to Dubai. The president of the PS Paul Magnette demanded the resignation of the entire political bureau of the Walloon Parliament.
After the call of the president of the PS, the tongues begin to loosen: “Let’s be clear. If Mr. Marcourt does not resign, I will resign because it is no longer possible for me to work with Mr. Marcourt”declares Manu Disabato, Ecolo deputy and member of the political bureau of the Walloon Parliament.
Jean-Claude Marcourt remains discreet, but the president of the Liège PS federation Frédéric Daerden does not hesitate to comment: “A parliament must have the confidence of its parliamentarians and the population. And the only way to achieve this is through collective withdrawal, which does not mean an admission of guilt, but the opportunity for a new start in a particularly difficult context”.
Some believe that new rules should govern the political bureau of parliament: “It must be possible to open it up to parliamentary groups, as long as they have a certain size, perhaps at least as an observer, perhaps with different powers. But there must be total transparency in the management of the structure”believes George-Louis Bouchez, president of MR.
The establishment of a new office is probably already in everyone’s mind, there remains one last act to be played: the official resignation of the members of the current office.
