Military troops found machinery used for illegal mining in the forest reserve located between Bolívar and Delta Amacuro.
Soldiers from the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Fanb) found more than 1,200 liters of diesel in the Imataca forest reserve, located between the states of Bolívar and Delta Amacuro.
Chief General Domingo Hernández Lárez, strategic operations commander of the Fanb, reported that they also found machinery used for illegal mining.
The tools for illegal extraction of minerals and the fuel deposits were destroyed, for being in an “unpermitted national security and defense zone.”
Hernández Lárez stressed that military personnel continue to be deployed in the Canaima National Park, where they have disabled clandestine tracks.
The tracks had allegedly been used by “illegal mining traffickers” as a way to evade authorities.
