The explosion occurred in a residential area in the south of the island located off the coast of Normandy. There are 12 missing.
At least three people died and a dozen are missing following a shocking explosion in a residential building in the capital of Jersey, as reported this Saturday by the head of the government of the British island located in the English Channel.
Kristina Moore announced this balance on Saturday night, updating a previous one of a single deceased. Also, two people were hospitalized and around thirty evacuated from the area.
“A great explosion” occurred around four in the morning in a residential building in Saint Helier, in the south of this island located off the French coast of Normandysaid local police chief Robin Smith.
Because of the detonation, whose hypothetical cause would be a gas leak, “a three-story building collapsed completely“added Smith, evoking “a pretty terrifying spectacle.”
He also indicated that the death toll may increase given the people who are still missing that the emergency services will continue to search for during the night.
The police chief explained that before the explosion, the inhabitants of the building had called the security force complaining of a gas smell.
The fire caused by the explosion was brought under control, but the head of the Jersey government, Kristina Moore, indicated that the cleaning the place might take “several days”.
The explosion was so strong that monitors from the British Geological Survey caught it.
The island experienced another drama this week with the disappearance of three shipwrecked sailors, whose search ended without success on Friday.
