A monumental clock inaugurated in La Chaux-de-Fonds – rts.ch

A monumental clock was inaugurated on Saturday on the Place de la station in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The book celebrates the know-how in watchmaking mechanics and artistic mechanics, registered on the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

A remark related to the lack of clocks in the watchmaking metropolis, made by the President of the Confederation Ignazio Cassis, during the inauguration of the 8th Biennale of watchmaking heritage, stung the Tissot group to the quick.

The watchmaking brand has chosen to join forces with the School of Applied Arts in La Chaux-de-Fonds by launching a competition in the design classes of watchmaking objects in order to imagine a monumental clock.

A work of art offered to the City

The clock, of ancient inspiration, designed by Loïc Chatton, highlights the watchmaking history of the region. The monument, a true work of art in the form of a clock, now sits on Place de la Gare. It was offered by the brand to the City of La Chaux-de-Fonds.

This inauguration coincides with the 14th Trotteuse-Tissot, a popular race held in the city center of the watchmaking metropolis. Just under 3,000 people take part in the urban bullfight, including more than 500 in the Santa Claus race.
