The arrest of the owner of a gold jewelry company in Egypt, on charges of trading in diamonds, precious stones, and smuggled gold jewelry, revealed a new surprise, which is the presence of another, more mysterious person with the accused.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the second defendant was an Egyptian national who impersonated a Lebanese person for 10 years and traveled to regarding 100 countries, indicating that he worked in the gold and precious jewelry trade, by smuggling from Egypt abroad and vice versa. It also clarified that the accused worked in smuggling jewelry encrusted with diamonds for ten years, and promoted among gold dealers that he is of Lebanese nationality and called himself the “gold whale”.
Lebanese impersonation
The accused confessed before the security services that he was trading in gold between Egypt and Lebanon, and it was found that he had impersonated a Lebanese to escape from the eyes of the security services when entering and leaving Cairo airport.
Investigations also revealed that the accused purchased an apartment in Heliopolis, Cairo, to carry out his activity by selling precious stones in dollars, and stored a large amount of precious stones and smuggled artifacts in his company to evade the employees of the regulatory authorities.
