Beijing – The Sino-Arab summit, held Friday in Saudi Arabia, represents a new milestone in strengthening the strategic partnership between Beijing and the Arab world, said Moroccan Ambassador to China Aziz Mekouar.
The summit opens up promising prospects for strengthening cooperation between the two sides in all fields, especially the economic and development fields, Mekouar said in an interview with the Chinese news agency, Xinhua.
The conclusions of the summit, the first of its kind, should boost efforts aimed at establishing a cooperation strategy that outlines the contours of a new future for relations between China and the Arab world, said the diplomat.
Addressing relations between China and Morocco, Mr. Mekouar recalled that the ties of friendship between the two countries are rooted in history. He recalled, in this sense, the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1958.
China regards Morocco as an exemplary friend in the Arab and African region, he noted, stressing that Sino-Moroccan relations are constantly developing in all fields, especially in the cultural sector. He cited, in this context, in particular the creation of the Confucius Institute within the Mohammed V University in Rabat.
Cooperation between Morocco and China has been strengthened following the conclusion of a strategic partnership between the two countries in 2016, which has made it possible to strengthen the dynamism of cooperation between the two countries at all levels, the official said. Diplomat.
He added that Morocco was the first Maghreb country and one of the first in Africa to sign a memorandum of understanding with China, relating to the “Belt and Road” initiative. The Convention of the Joint Implementation Plan of the Belt and Road, signed between the two countries at the beginning of the current year, represents an effective tool for the strategic management and the realization of a China-China comprehensive partnership. Morocco and China are now called upon to raise the level of their cooperation to include areas such as infrastructure, trade, investment, industry, education, science, technology, clean energy and health, he said, indicating that the “Belt and Road” initiative should benefit from the dynamic support of Morocco, thanks to the political stability enjoyed by the Kingdom, its geographical position, the opening of its economy and its potential in the different sectors.
Morocco stands out as an Arab, African and Mediterranean country that plays a central role in the implementation of the “Belt and Road” initiative, the diplomat said, adding that Morocco shares the ambition of the China to make the said initiative a success for South-South cooperation.
The ambassador, on the other hand, called for exploiting the promising possibilities and new opportunities offered by the current dynamism of the bilateral relations to raise them to the level desired by the leaders of the two countries.
