New trade agreement between EU and Chile

The EU and Chile agree on a new trade agreement. The EU hopes that this will give better access to lithium, copper and hydrogen.

Chile is one of the largest producers of lithium in the world. A large part of it is mined in the Atacama Desert.

Around 20 years following the first agreement, the EU and Chile have agreed to expand their trade relations. As the EU Commission announced on Friday following talks with Chilean Foreign Minister Antonia Urrejola in Brussels, there will be further tariff reductions and an even stronger exchange of goods and services. The EU Commission spoke of a “milestone of central geopolitical importance”.
