Dyson releases a device from the future (and it’s not a vacuum cleaner)

Dyson has just announced the detailed specifications of its famous Dyson Zone headphones, which will go on sale from January.

Present at the beginning of the year, the Dyson Zone headphones offer a whole new listening experience, plus air purification on the go. After five years of research and development, the headphones offer up to 50 hours of listening time with ultra-low distortion, advanced noise reduction and faithful audio reproduction across the entire sound spectrum. The Dyson Zone noise canceling headphones also capture 99% of 0.1 micron pollutant particles, while the potassium-enriched K-Carbon filters target the most common acid gases associated with urban pollution, including NO2 and SO2.

Dyson Zone: the helmet of the future is here, but it comes at a price

The Dyson Zone headphones are powered by lithium-ion batteries (2600mAh in total) and a USB-C charging system, they offer 50 hours of autonomy in audio only mode, or 4 hours of autonomy in purification and audio mode handsets, with a 100% recharge in 3 hours. These headphones are the result of 30 years of Dyson expertise in airflow, filtration and motor technologies, and a deep understanding of indoor and outdoor air quality. Compressors in each earcup draw air through dual-layer filters and direct two streams of purified air to the wearer’s nose and mouth, channeled through the contactless visor. Electrostatic filters capture 99% of pollutant particles as small as 0.1 microns in size, while potassium-enriched K-Carbon filters target the most common acid gases associated with urban pollution, including NO2 and SO2.

The product was also engineered to deliver immersive, high-fidelity sound with ultra-low distortion and a wide frequency range for clarity in the bass, midrange and treble. The Dyson Zone headphones have an additional microphone for telephony, enabling phone calls, voice recording and voice monitoring. The telephony microphone is combined with the live action ANC microphone to provide a dual beamforming microphone. Beamforming creates greater voice transmission clarity by combining the signals from each microphone in a way that allows the system to reject noise from behind and to the side of the user. The headset’s ANC system uses eight microphones that monitor surrounding noise 384,000 times per second. It offers up to 38dB of noise cancellation from 20Hz to 20kHz.

Finally, thanks to tests carried out on heads of different sizes and shapes, the headphones offer the same sound immersion to all users. These Dyson Zone noise reduction headphones will therefore be launched in 2023 at a price of $949.
