In recent years, we have seen the Vegas Golden Knights and the Seattle Kraken join the 30 existing NHL teams.
The Knights are in their sixth year of existence, while the Kraken is playing the second season of its history.
However, the National League may not wait too long before starting the expansion process once more. Chris Johnston (TSN) says in the segment below that there is a real possibility of seeing one (or two?) teams make it into the NHL before long.

The TSN insider explains that the owners have lost lots and lots of money during the pandemic (which is no secret) and that an expansion process might help them recover some of their losses .
And when you think regarding the fact that the Knights paid $500 million in 2017 and the amount of the Kraken amounted to $650 million (2021) in order to integrate the NHL, we are entitled to s Expect the next team to do the same to pay even more.
Obviously, there are easy links to make with Quebec City, which is still looking to acquire an NHL team. We know that the project is not new…
But it also shouldn’t be discounted that there are several other cities in the United States that want to do the same. I am thinking here of Houston and Kansas City, two names of cities that we have already heard in some rumors of expansion.
It’s interesting, all that, in the perspective that there will perhaps be a reorganization of the divisions and the conferences to be done if it were to be concretized. A total number of 33 teams… Seems to me that doesn’t sound ideal.
I have the impression that there is a 34th that will be added to the discussion, if the 33rd does see the light of day…
