AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT : premier unboxing

Today, the embargo on photos from unboxing concerning graphics cards AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT et XTX is lifted. It is via the Hardwaretimes site that we discover the presentation and the contents of the box of one of the two future references which will come out on the red side on December 13, 2022.

A sober and elegant packaging for the AMD RX 7900 XT

The map shown here is a AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT as reference model, i.e. MBA for Made By AMD (equivalent to NVIDIA’s Founders Edition). Here we find a box similar to the previous series. The main theme is black with images of the card from different angles on the top side of the box. When opening, a welcome message ” Welcome to the red team » appears just above the card which is placed in its case.

Once the card is out of its box, we are in the presence of a model dressed all in black with a few shy touches of red on the backplate and on the heatsink, near the power connectors. Cooling will be provided by three 100mm fans and the whole thing will take up 2.5 slots. Compared to its green rival, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Founders Edition, AMD retains a conventional power supply of connectors 2*8-pins PCIe instead of the new connector offered by NVIDIA in 12VHPWR.

The card is 276 mm long and is accompanied by a fairly extensive connection:

  • 2 x Display Port 2.1
  • 2 x HDMI 2.2
  • 1 x USB Type-C

The card’s shroud is very angular, especially on the top side carrying the fans and softens somewhat as you get to the edges. There is no doubt that the custom models will overcome the power limit by going through a third PCIe power connector as we have seen on theASRock RX 7900 XTX Aqua OC. This will allow more substantial overclocking, better voltage stability, but which will also require a better cooling system to evacuate the additional calories. For the reference models, we remind you of the MSRP prices for the RX 7900 XT is $899 and for the RX 7900 XTX pour 999$.

To be continued in the next few days the lifting of NDAs on full tests of these cards which are already eagerly awaited to compete with the RTX 4000 series from NVIDIA. One of the only big doubts currently is the availability of the latter which are rumored to be very problematic at launch.
