This Thursday, the National Assembly showed its solidarity with the vice president of Argentina, Cristina Fernández, who was sentenced for corruption to six years in prison and perpetual disqualification from holding public office.
The legislators approved a draft agreement in which they also expressed their solidarity with the Argentine people who “feel outraged by this injustice that undermines the foundations of democracy.”
Similarly, they rejected a new attempt at “legal war” once morest those who “lead processes of change in Latin America, harassing leaders through the courts and the media to defend dark interests.”
Finally, the deputies agreed to create a special commission to deliver the agreement to Fernández through the Embassy of the southern country in Venezuela.
The opposition deputy Oscar Ronderos gave his approval to the draft agreement and indicated that in Argentina they have used the Justice to “achieve political objectives.”
“It seems that the accessory sanction that is established for Mrs. Cristina Fernández is more important than the main one, which is nothing other than disqualification from holding public office,” he added.
The vice president of Argentina was sentenced on Tuesday to six years in prison in a trial for irregularities in the concession of road works during the Kirchner governments (2003-2015).
