Shortstop Xander Bogaerts has agreed to an 11-year, $280 million contract with the San Diego Padres, Jeff Passan has learned from the network ESPN.
The 30-year-old Bogaerts has produced relatively consistently over the past decade, also having a strong season in 2022. In 150 games last campaign, he batted .307 in plus hitting 15 home runs and driving in 73 runs.
In 2022, he was elected to the All-Star Game for the fourth time in his career.
Bogaerts will find himself in other colors than those of the Boston Red Sox for the first time in his career. He had been with the Red Sox since the 2013 season.
After making his major league debut at age 20, he won two World Series with Boston, in 2013 and 2018.
Earlier in the day Wednesday, Aaron Judge agreed to a $360 million deal with the Yankees.
Shortstop Xander Bogaerts and the San Diego Padres are in agreement on an 11-year, $280 million contract, a source familiar with the deal tells ESPN. A monster contract and the Padres, following missing Trea Turner and Aaron Judge, get the longtime Red Sox shortstop.
