Phillies sign Taijuan Walker to four-year deal (source)

The Phillies and the right Taijuan Walker have agreed to a four-year, $72 million deal, a source told MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo. The club has not confirmed the deal.

30-year-old Walker has had an up-and-down career in recent years, although he is coming off a 2022 season in which he went 12-5 with a 3.49 ERA in 29 starts for the Mets.

That performance came following Walker was called to the All-Star Game for the first time in 2021, when he had a torrid start to the season for the Mets, but then slumped in the second half. The right-hander went 7-3 with a 2.66 ERA in 17 first-half appearances before going 0-8 with a 7.13 ERA following the All-Star break.

Walker had a similar performance in 2022, going 7-2 with a 2.55 ERA in 16 first-half starts, but then posted a 4.80 ERA in 13 outings the rest of the way.

Walker has a career ERA of 3.89 in 167 appearances (163 starts) over 10 seasons with the Mariners, D-backs, Blue Jays and Mets.
