Losing streak starting and ending in 2022; India’s third series defeat this year
2022 has turned out to be one of the worst years in India’s cricket calendar. India has had to face defeat in several matches including Asia Cup loss and a humiliating loss to England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.
Although there have been series wins with various teams this year, none of them can overcome this loss.
India started with a loss in the first series of 2022. That defeat came during India’s tour of South Africa. India lost all three matches in the ODI series.
The first Test match of India’s South Africa tour was played on 26 December 2021. After winning the first Test, India lost the second and third Tests and lost the series.
India entered the first ODI at Boland Park on January 19 to overcome the defeat in the Test series. Batting first, the Proteas scored 296 runs. In reply, India’s struggle with batting ended at 265 and the Proteas won by 31 runs.
India lost the second match by seven wickets and lost the third match by four runs. With this, South Africa won the three ODI series 3-0.
India continued their winning streak by winning many series and tours. But New Zealand put a stop to that surge in November.
While both matches of the three-match series were washed out by rain, New Zealand won the series 1-0 with the advantage of winning the first match of the series.
After this, India flew to Bangladesh for their final tour in 2022. But misfortune did not help India there either.
By the end of the first two matches of the three-match series, India had lost the series to the Bengal Tigers.
India is trying to save face by winning at least the third match. The dead rubber match will be held at Sher-e-Bangla, Mirpur on December 10.
