From Friday evening, the Escalade festival will be in full swing to celebrate the 420th anniversary of the victory of the Genevans over the troops of the Duke of Savoy in 1602. Jean-Marc Barberis, president of the Compagnie de 1602 and Joël Mérigonde, from the he Association of Artisan Bakers and Confectioners of the Canton of Geneva presents the program to us.
Highly anticipated, the Escalade procession will be back following a two-year absence! “All authorizations have passed, but the weather is a bit unfavourable. The main thing is that we can return to the Old Town”, slips Jean-Marc Barberis, president of the Compagnie de 1602. This year, watchmaking will be honored throughout the weekend. On the music side, the trumpets, the large choir of the Escalade and the Fifres and Drums will play together on the Saint-Pierre courtyard on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
This year, 50 centimes will be donated to the Compagnie de 1602 for each pot sold. Twenty vouchers to win a gold-plated watch will be distributed in all the pots on sale in 20 branches. “This year, we are going to chocolate makers to make a gesture towards them, since last year we canceled at the last minute and there were losses”, explains Jean-Marc Barberis. See you this weekend.
